To comply with the Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ regulations, CETUSA assists companies to:
- Submit a structured training plan outlining the scope and content of the participant’s proposed program
- Complete mid-course and final evaluations of the training program
Host companies must also:
- Provide a Dun & Bradstreet number, a Tax Identification Number (EIN), as well as proof of a Workman’s Compensation Insurance policy
- Provide either one or several rotating projects for the trainee or intern
- Provide supervision and support for the trainee or intern
What are the host company's responsibilities?
- Provide the trainee or intern with a structured training program (minimum 32 hours per week) that is reflected in the participant’s customized training or internship plan.
- Be committed to have a permanent staff member assigned to act in a supervisory role and provide ongoing supervision during the program. This training syllabus must reflect the trainee or intern’s qualifications and background, and must not repeat the trainee or intern’s previous experience (as required by J-1 program regulations).
- Ensure that the trainee or intern performs only those activities listed in the Training/Internship Placement Plan (T/IPP) Form DS-7002, and does not perform ordinary work that a part-time or full-time staff member of the company would otherwise be responsible for. J-1 trainees or interns are also not allowed to make final decisions about, or carry the full responsibility for, major tasks, assignments, or projects. However, they may provide assistance in such activities since on-the-job training or internship is encouraged as a crucial learning tool.
- Provide a copy of current Workers Compensation Policy coverage, EIN business tax payer ID number, Dun and Bradstreet listing number, annual revenue, and the company profile details. This data collection is a mandatory requirement set forth to all sponsoring organizations by the U.S. State Department.
- Offer a training advancement program to qualified J-1 trainee candidates for 18 months or less in one of the following subject fields: Arts and Culture, Social Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism, Culinary Arts, Information Media and Communications, Management, Business, Commerce and Finance, Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics.
