Study Abroad in Ecuador
Ecuador lies on the west coast of South America. It is home to several volcanoes as well as the Andes mountains and the Galapagos Islands. The country crosses the equator and is about the size of the state of Nevada. The population is 10% European descent, 25% indigenous peoples and the remainder are mixed ethnicity. The capital city is Quito with approximately 1.5 million people.

Program Details
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 18
- No prior Spanish language required
- Placed with volunteer host family

- 10, 5, or 3 month program starts in September
- 5 or 3 month program starts in February
- School year begins in September
- Fall Semester Application Deadline: May 30th

- Semester – $7,900
- 3 months – $6,000

High School System
The secondary school system in Ecuador is made up of two, three year cycles beginning with 7th grade. Students must pass the first cycle to be admitted to the second cycle. Students wishing to attend university must also pass the second cycle.
Most exchange students will be placed in private schools and will be required to wear uniforms. The typical Ecuadorian school year runs from September to July. Classes are usually held from 7:00AM to 2:00PM from Monday to Friday. Students remain in one classroom and teachers rotate rooms. Students have the same schedules every week and always share the same classroom with the same classmates.
